Polar Hyrox Setup, Activity Profile and Race-Day Configuration

Polar doesn't have an official Hyrox profile, but here's the custom Vantage / Pacer / Grit X setup that captures HR zones, station laps, and per-km running splits.

By

Polar lacks an official Hyrox profile, but its HR accuracy and zone modelling are best-in-class. With a 5-minute custom activity setup in Polar Flow, you’ll get a clean HR-zone breakdown of your race, arguably the most useful single data view for Hyrox.

Best Polar watches for Hyrox

WatchRecommended?
Vantage V3βœ… Top pick, battery, HR, dual-band GPS
Grit X2 Proβœ… Great alternative
Vantage M3βœ… Solid mid-range
Pacer Proβœ… Budget pick
Vantage V2βœ… Older but works
M430, V800⚠️ Functional but dated

All Polar watches with HR-zone tracking and manual laps will work for Hyrox.

Building a custom Hyrox activity profile

Step 1: Open Polar Flow on web or mobile

Polar Flow β†’ Settings β†’ Sport profiles.

Step 2: Add a new sport profile

Click + Add sport profile β†’ Search β†’ Other indoor β†’ Name it β€œHyrox”.

If you have a Vantage V3 / Grit X2, you can also use Multisport for run + indoor segments.

Step 3: Configure the profile

  • GPS: Off (indoor; not needed)
  • Running cadence: On
  • Heart rate: Visible
  • HR zones: Set to your personal zones (Polar calculates these from your HRmax)
  • Auto-lap: Distance, every 1 km
  • Auto-pause: OFF (very important, auto-pause messes up station timing)

Step 4: Customise training views

Set up two views:

View 1 (primary):

  • Heart rate
  • Lap time
  • Total time
  • Distance

View 2 (secondary):

  • Average HR
  • HR zone (current)
  • Calories
  • Cadence

Save and sync to the watch.

Step 5: Pair a chest strap

Polar H10 is the gold-standard HR chest strap. To pair:

  1. Wet electrodes
  2. Wear strap snug, just below sternum
  3. Wake the watch
  4. Settings β†’ Sensors β†’ Search & connect

The strap auto-connects when you start an activity.

Race-day Polar checklist

Night before:

  • βœ… Sync watch to Polar Flow
  • βœ… Charge to 100%
  • βœ… Confirm Hyrox profile is in your activity list
  • βœ… Confirm chest strap battery is fresh

Race morning:

  • βœ… Strap on chest HRM after breakfast
  • βœ… Walk to corral with watch on wrist
  • βœ… Start activity in corral, paused
  • βœ… Resume + start at β€œGO”
  • βœ… Manual lap button at each station entry and exit

Polar’s HR-zone advantage

Polar’s strength is HR data. After the race:

  • Polar Flow β†’ Activity β†’ HR section
  • See time spent in each zone
  • Compare against your training week

Polar’s β€œTraining Load Pro” calculates cardiovascular load + perceived load, which informs your recovery plan post-race. Most Hyrox athletes are at extremely high cardiovascular load (250-400 TRIMP points for a Hyrox).
